Fiber Construction Labor Job Responsible for maintaining the Tombigbee Electric aerial fiber system (pole transfers, fiber damages, general maintenance, etc...), and for new build of Tombigbee Electric aerial fiber system. You will also be responsible for assisting with the Tombigbee Electric underground crew on fiber construction. You will also be responsible for assisting the fiber technicians and fiber installers with drops and trouble calls.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
Fiber optic splicing
Fiber optic troubleshooting, including OTDR and light meter readings
Perform construction related duties (pole transfers, pole moves, dead taps, new build, etc...)
Assist with Tombigbee Electric Power Association underground crew with the placement of fiber and related equipment (pedestals, metal enclosures, etc...)
Requires being on call
Use positive interpersonal skills for interaction with the customers of Tombigbee Electric Power Association and Tombigbee Fiber, LLC to resolve any issues
Required to be able to work from heights including, pole climbing, ladder work and bucket truck work
Must be able to work in inclement weather
Must be able to work with electronic maps, document and maintain records of work performed
Must preserve confidentiality of company issues when relating to staff, customers, and public
Must support bylaws, guidelines, policies and philosophies of Tombigbee at all times
The Fiber Technician shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the company
Must have general PC and tablet abilities including Microsoft office, Excel and related or similar programs
Education:
High School or GED equivalent
Training in fiber splicing, trouble shooting, and diagnostics preferred
Experience:
At least 3 years' experience in telecommunications and fiber optics aerial construction is preferred.
Fiber splicing, preferred.
Experience with bucket truck operation, required.
Pole climbing experience, required.
Home and business install experience, preferred.
Troubleshooting and problem-solving experience, required.
Dealing with customers, preferred.
CDL or ability to obtain one if requested is required.
Ability to work with tools, required.
If an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination is required which includes drug testing.
