Role & Responsibilities: Overview The Field Construction Manager (FCM) is responsible for supervising all on-site construction activities including civil, structural, and electromechanical scopes for high-voltage transmission, distribution, and substation projects. Reporting to the Project Manager and Construction Manager, the FCM ensures compliance with project plans, safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality benchmarks while supporting timely execution and cost control. Key Responsibilities Construction Oversight Coordinate daily construction activities, contractor schedules, and site logistics. Perform regular field inspections to verify material deliveries, installation quality, and schedule adherence. Maintain current as-built drawings and project documentation on site. Facilitate problem-solving with engineering, inspectors, and contractors. Conduct and document weekly progress meetings and ensure two-week lookahead schedules are submitted. Support outage coordination and initiate requests via E-STAR/CONVEX systems. Project Documentation & Communication Submit weekly and monthly reports; maintain logs for RFIs, change orders, correspondence, and daily field updates. Monitor contractor invoices and progress against earned value metrics. Assist with the preparation of the project final documentation package. Act as liaison with local/state agencies and manage public communications as needed. Safety Management Review and enforce contractor Health and Safety Plans (HASP). Lead or participate in daily safety briefings and weekly safety audits. Monitor implementation of corrective actions for safety violations. Ensure incidents, near misses, and injuries are properly reported and investigated. Maintain and update H&S documentation including orientation checklists and inspection records. Environmental Compliance Enforce the Environmental Management Plan and conduct daily site inspections. Report environmental incidents and coordinate with Customer and regulatory bodies (e.g., NYSDEC, CT DEEP). Perform and document weekly audits and maintain environmental compliance records. Quality Control Support review and tracking of Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), redlines, and submittals. Verify equipment tests, permit compliance, and workmanship against standards. Conduct and record weekly QA inspections, energization readiness checks, and site walkdowns. Ensure proper control of RFIs, DCNs, FCNs, and all field modifications. Manage material reconciliation and documentation at project closeout. Qualifications / Requirements: Education & Experience Direct related experience in Construction and Maintenance of Substation Facilities or Transmission / Distribution Systems is necessary: Option 1: Four-year degree in a relevant field + 5 years of field experience Option 2: Two-year degree in a relevant field + 8 years of field experience Option 3: 10+ years in construction/maintenance of electrical transmission/distribution systems or substations
Technical Proficiency General knowledge of electric theory, line work, and substation construction. Experience with switching/tagging procedures and safety protocols. Understanding of environmental compliance (SWPPP, wetlands, spill prevention). Familiarity with industry standards (NEC, NESC, OSHA). Certifications Background check clearance (as per Customer Contractor policy) Valid driver's license First Aid / AED Certification OSHA 30-hour safety training Why Join PTAG?
