Summary: The Upper St. Clair High School is seeking an energetic, motivated and team-oriented individual to fill the role of Fall Play Construction Director.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing the entire set construction process-from planning and scheduling build days to leading the assembly and installation of the set on stage.
- Lead the student crew members during build sessions, ensuring that all work is done safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the scenic design.
- Coordinate materials, tools, and workspace setup with the drama teacher or technical staff.
- Throughout the rehearsal process, the Construction Director should be available to make repairs or adjustments to the set as needed, attend production meetings, and assist during tech rehearsals.
- Lead the safe strike (tear-down) of the set, ensuring all items are properly stored or disposed of, after the final performance
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of experience, preferred in technical theater, carpentry, or stagecraft, ideally with some prior involvement in school productions.
- Comfortable working with tools and building materials,
- Be familiar with basic construction techniques and safety protocols.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills are important, as the Construction Director will guide a team of student volunteers, helping them learn and apply set-building skills while ensuring that safety is always the top priority.
- The ability to read and interpret simple set designs or construction drawings is helpful, along with a willingness to problem-solve and adapt as needed throughout the building process.
- Good communication skills are essential for working closely with the director, technical director, and other members of the production team.
