Job Description
The Junior Estimator will play a key supporting role in the preconstruction process for a wide range of commercial projects, assisting in the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates. This individual will work closely with senior estimators and project managers to analyze drawings, quantify materials, solicit subcontractor pricing, and contribute to the development of bid proposals. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, eager to learn, and have a foundational understanding of construction methods and cost structures. Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects during all phases of preconstruction
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and addenda to quantify materials and identify scope requirements
- Solicit and organize subcontractor and vendor quotes to support bid development and pricing accuracy
- Support senior estimators in preparing bid packages, proposals, and budgets for both negotiated and hard-bid projects
- Perform quantity takeoffs using estimating software and ensure accurate measurement of labor, materials, and equipment costs
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather relevant project information and assess existing conditions
- Help maintain and update a historical cost database and subcontractor/vendor contact list
- Coordinate with the preconstruction and operations teams to align estimates with project goals and schedules
- Assist in analyzing bid results, conducting scope reviews, and identifying value engineering opportunities
- Ensure all estimating documentation is organized, complete, and properly archived for future reference

The Successful Applicant
In return for a competitive compensation package, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
- 1-3 years of experience supporting estimating or preconstruction efforts on commercial construction projects - essential
- Foundational knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents - essential
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with attention to detail - essential
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and perform basic quantity takeoffs - essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating) - preferred
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with subcontractors and internal teams - preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field - preferred
- Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and grow within a collaborative preconstruction team - essential
- Exposure to commercial project types such as retail, industrial, or mixed-use developments - preferred
