Job Summary:
RMS is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Plumbing and HVAC Construction Estimator to join our pre-construction team. This role involves preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems-including plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning-for commercial, and industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in mechanical systems and estimating processes and will play a key role in securing profitable projects through competitive and well researched bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate cost estimates for plumbing and HVAC scopes.
- Perform material take-offs and labor cost analysis for piping systems, ductwork, equipment, fixtures, and related components.
- Obtain competitive quotes from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring coverage for all necessary scopes.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and general contractors to clarify project scope and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and bid proposals in line with project timelines.
- Conduct risk assessments and identify cost-saving opportunities or value engineering alternatives.
- Track and maintain historical cost data, market trends, and pricing information.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and job site walkthroughs as required.
- Assist with project budgeting and turnover to operations after successful award.
Requirements
Requirements:
- 3-5+ years of estimating experience in plumbing and HVAC construction.
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems and construction processes.
- Proficient in estimating software such as Trimble or similar.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with BIM and digital takeoff tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble Estimating). Familiarity with local building codes, energy regulations, and mechanical standards. Certification such as Certified Mechanical estimator (CME) or LEED accreditation.
