Regional Construction Surety Manager
Overall Description
Reports into and is under the direction of the SVP, Construction Group Zonal Leader.
Makes independent decisions to ensure that existing and new business meets our underwriting standards and conveys these decisions and recommendations to Home Office underwriters in a timely manner.
Takes action to develop and execute a Territory and Tactical plan to ensure that key business objectives, strategies and process management goals are achieved. Plans should ensure that the branch is acting on current opportunities and addressing problems.
Builds the capabilities of his/her team toward achieving goals and strategies.
Takes responsibility for running all day-to-day aspects of branch business, including overseeing performance of tasks or assignments to ensure progress is on target. Progress should be regularly and frequently reviewed with the Construction Group Director.
Achieves department goals in the areas of underwriting, financial/credit management, people management, marketing, service, and cross-department relations.
Meets targeted profitability and expense metrics.
Drives production efforts to attract new account opportunities.
Underwriting/Credit Management
Assumes lead role in making underwriting decisions
Demonstrates ability to make difficult credit and producer management decisions
Continuously assesses and makes independent decisions to ensure accounts fit the preferred account characteristics
Effectively manages the dual underwriting process
Manages agent and account relationships to achieve maximum benefit to the underwriting process.
Communicates all pertinent issues to the Construction Group Director and appropriate home office staff.
Actively travels as needed to effectively manage the territory, agent, and account relationships.
Builds Organizational Talent
Promotes and supports a diverse, positive, and open work environment
Coaches and mentors staff in their career planning
Constructs a plan for team members' development which addresses strengths and weaknesses
Take the lead role in hiring, training, and retaining quality individuals.
Develops underwriters so that they are recognized by management as high performers who are prepared for promotion to positions of greater responsibility.
Drive for Results
Meet expense, pricing and commission targets.
Review pricing and producer strategies to ensure compliance with department goals
Participates as needed and provides input on special department projects.
Drives Customer and Producer Focus
Strengthens relationships with existing agents and develops relationships with new agents through regular visitation, attendance at industry functions, and exceptional service
Exhibits professional and personal behavior which creates a positive image of Chubb in the marketplace
Establishes and implements policies and procedures which ensure exceptional service in meeting the needs of Chubb Surety accounts and agents.
Territory Management
Actively travel independently as well as in conjunction with underwriters
Manage the development and implementation of underwriter travel plans.
Builds Strategic Work Relationships
Work with Chubb employees (within Surety, other departments, other branches) to facilitate achieving the goals of others and for the overall good of Chubb
Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree
7+ years of relevant experience
Critical Competencies:
Leadership Skills : Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, with experience in staff coaching, mentoring, and fostering a diverse and positive work environment. Experience with hiring and talent management is also essential.
Strategic Planning and Execution : Strong skills in territory and tactical planning, with a track record of developing and executing operational plans that align with business objectives and drive profitability.
Relationship Management : Excellent interpersonal skills with a history of successfully building and maintaining relationships with agents and clients, as well as cross-departmental collaboration to enhance service and outcomes.
Results-Driven : A proactive approach to achieving goals, with a focus on meeting financial metrics, pricing targets, and operational excellence. Experience in review and implementation of pricing and producer strategies is a plus.
Effective Communication : Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey underwriting decisions and strategies to internal stakeholders and external partners, and provide regular updates to senior management.
