Resident Construction Representative
Weston & Sampson is seeking a Resident Construction Representative for oversight and inspection of multidisciplinary design and construction projects at various locations in the National Capital Region (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia). This position is a great opportunity for professional development as part of a team of professional engineers, designers, and constructors. Responsibilities are expected to include geotechnical oversight and inspection of construction projects including dams, reinforced slopes, and municipal facilities; data collection and interpretation using geotechnical instrumentation; environmental sampling and compliance; and observation of subsurface explorations.
What You'll Do:
- The projects will require careful coordination with the client, contract administration and reporting, and close coordination with engineers working in support.
- The candidate needs to provide a flexible working schedule as project needs arise.
- Review contract documents, permits, and construction management requirements to identify and report degree of Contractor's compliance.
- Review and evaluate Contractor's work schedules and updates with the Project Manager.
- Attend pre-construction meetings; check compliance of shop drawings and other construction modifications; measure the quantities and observe quality of construction; prepare daily records of construction work; record and report problems and failures to comply with contract documents and construction management requirements.
- Maintain, liaison and attend regular site meetings to anticipate construction work, potential problems, progress, and other job-related conditions.
- May also review and recommend monthly payment estimates; maintain construction "punch lists" to be completed or corrected; provide coordination and assistance related to other requirements; supervise subordinate consultant staff and survey crew as appropriate.
- Some local and regional travel may be required.
- Obtain and maintain applicable certifications for erosion and sediment control inspections.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or related field
- Two or more years of experience with resident engineering services, underground construction, applied geology, or related work a plus
- Experience with erosion and sediment controls a plus
- Survey and design engineering experience is a plus
- AutoCAD and GIS experience is a plus
- Experience with general construction inspection policies, procedures, and administrative requirements
- Working knowledge and experience with interpreting contract documents, including compliance with prevailing safety regulations
- Excellent public relations, written and verbal communication skills and organizational/time management skills
- Prepare and maintain electronic field records efficiently and accurately
- Ability to work well with contractors, engineers, and clients
- Valid driver's license and able to provide own reliable transportation
