Job Description
We’re hiring on behalf of a well-established civil construction firm with a 60+ year legacy of delivering high-impact infrastructure projects across excavation, asphalt, concrete, and environmental services. The organization is seeking a seasoned Roadway Construction Superintendent to lead field operations for highway, runway, and large-scale site development projects—with a focus on earthmoving and haul logistics.
This role oversees the daily activities of both union and non-union crews, coordinates with subcontractors, manages schedules, and ensures quality and safety standards are met throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and oversee project schedules, staffing needs, and construction procedures for heavy highway or site development work.
Coordinate delivery of materials, tools, and equipment to meet scheduled milestones.
Manage daily and weekly subcontractor scheduling; maintain close communication with the Project Manager.
Monitor project progress, report material usage, manage costs, and adjust schedules as needed to meet key deadlines.
Accurately record crew time, daily production quantities, and field data in coordination with the project engineer.
Conduct quality inspections to ensure adherence to project specifications and timelines.
Maintain and submit trucking logs, material tickets, and JULIE (underground utility locate) orders.
Address field concerns, resolve conflicts, and support site personnel with on-the-ground decision making.
Required Qualifications:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in heavy highway excavation or similar field.
Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changes in the field.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Understanding of industry safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with MS Project, Primavera P6, Viewpoint, and HCSS Heavy Bid/Heavy Job.
Experience working with union crews and managing excavation-heavy scopes.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Comfortable standing for up to 12 hours with periodic breaks.
Capable of stooping, climbing, walking uneven terrain, and driving long distances as required on active job sites.
