Job Description
The Senior EHS Specialist - Heavy Steel - Construction will be responsible for the following: Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies and procedures tailored to heavy steel manufacturing operations.
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard analyses specific to steel production, including molten metal handling, heavy machinery, and welding operations.
Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, MSHA, and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
Manage workplace safety programs such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, PPE compliance, and chemical safety.
Oversee environmental compliance related to air emissions, water discharge, waste management, and reporting.
Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections across production facilities, identifying potential risks and driving continuous improvement.
Deliver training programs to employees and management on safety practices, regulatory requirements, and emergency response.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to integrate safety into all processes.
Lead emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and incident command systems.
Prepare and maintain detailed records, reports, and documentation to support internal reviews and external regulatory inspections.
Mentor and guide junior EHS staff, fostering professional development and knowledge sharing.

The Successful Applicant
The ideal Senior EHS Specialist - Heavy Steel - Construction will have the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3+ years of progressive EHS experience in the heavy steel, construction, or heavy manufacturing industry.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910, 1926), EPA environmental regulations, MSHA, and ANSI standards applicable to steel production.
Strong understanding of hazards in steel mills, including molten metal, heavy machinery, high noise, and chemical exposures.
Proven experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) is highly desirable.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and lead projects in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Proficiency with EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
