Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services (www.protecnium.com/en) We are currently looking for a Tunnel Party Chief Surveyor to join our team for a construction project in Chesapeake, Virginia (on-site position)

-Estimated duration of the position: 1 year - In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.
-Summary:responsible for leading the surveying operations within tunnelling projects, ensuring precision in alignment, elevations, and control networks. This role involves managing a team of surveyors and coordinating with engineering and construction teams to ensure that all tunnelling activities are executed according to design specifications and project requirements
-Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the surveying team assigned to the tunnel section of the project.
- Establish and maintain accurate horizontal and vertical control networks within the tunnel.
- Conduct daily and periodic tunnel alignments, as-built surveys, and monitoring of deformations or displacements.
- Coordinate with engineers and construction managers to interpret project plans and provide accurate layout and staking.
- Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and use of surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, digital levels, laser scanners, gyroscopic systems).
- Maintain detailed survey records, field notes, and reports.
- Implement safety protocols and quality control procedures within the surveying team.
- Communicate effectively with the design and construction teams to resolve discrepancies or unexpected site conditions.
- Train and mentor junior surveyors and assistants.
-Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience as a Land Surveyor in underground or tunnel surveying, preferably in major infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone).
- Ability to lead a team and work under pressure in confined underground environments.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and extended hours as required.
-Working hours: Monday to Friday, 12 hours day shifts.
