CLASSIFICATION: TRAINEE (CONSTRUCTION)

DUTIES:

Under close supervision as a learner in training for advancement to the next higher grade in his/her promotional sequence, works with employees of higher classification in electrical and other work in and about substations and shops; performing such duties as:

  • Assisting employees of higher classification in their work, including supplying them with tools, instruments, materials and equipment.
  • Caring for tools, instruments, materials, and equipment used in the work.
  • Operating power tools such as electric drills, any saw, welders, mag drills, etc.
  • Operating torches, handling solder, removing insulation from wires, etc.
  • Bending, cutting and threading conduit and pipe by hand.
  • Driving a truck or other Company vehicles on a limited basis, such as, to and from job site, when required; and other driving incidental with performance of duties.
  • Acquiring a working knowledge of safety rules, first-aid and safety equipment, understand work methods, and be certified in CPR and first aid.
  • Performing other similar or less skilled work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet the Company's requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have acquired a knowledge of the use and care of the more common tools used in the work.
  • Must be capable of passing the Company's drivers examination and possess the necessary driver's license, including the appropriate Commercial Driver's License. Must obtain a CDL within 6 months of employment.
  • Must possess and demonstrate through testing an aptitude for mechanical and electrical work.
  • Must possess and demonstrate ability to climb structures and work at elevated heights.
