The Faades and Local Law unit performs inspections and plan examination regarding building faades, and enforces local laws pertaining to faades, fire safety, and parking structures. The unit manages the Faade Inspection and Safety Program (FISP), which requires owners of buildings higher than six stories to have exterior walls and appurtenances inspected every five years and file a technical report with the Department, and the Periodic Inspections of Parking Structures (PIPS) program, which requires owners of parking structures to have the structures inspected at least every six years and file a condition assessment report with the Department. The selected Supervising Inspector of the Faades and Local Law unit will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

- Assist the Assistant Chief Inspector with managing the daily operation and performance of the unit.

- Assume duties of Assistant Chief Inspector in the Assistant Chief's absence.

- Prepare and maintain reports & records of field inspections and quality assurance visits.

- Mentor, train, supervises and evaluates subordinate Inspectors.

- Prioritize assignments and coordinate workflow to ensure timely achievement of unit goals.

- Assist members of the public in person, phone, and e-mails or through other available technical means to streamline and bring jobs to closure.

- Evaluate and refer field observation reports from field inspector to the appropriate responsible Enforcement unit.

- Performing inspections for compliance with local law and FISP regulations.

- Ensuring service level inspections are completed in a timely manner.

- Communicating with the Faade unit technical staff on high level inspections.

- Approving inspection reports created by subordinate inspectors.

- Reviewing inspectors' violations and ensuring error free submissions to AEU.

- Ensuring unit vehicles are well maintained and efficiently used.

- Ensuring complaints are inspected and closed in a timely manner.

- Conducting meetings with subordinate inspectors to address performance issues.

- Performing technical work in the inspection of construction demolition, alterations and new construction, to ensure conformance with the New York City Building Code, Local Laws, Rules, standards, plans and specifications.

- Efficiently utilizing agency routing and inspection software's.

- Performing fieldwork as necessary, which will include responding to emergencies, performing inspections, quality assurance and field supervision.

- Responding to emergencies promptly and providing accurate and appropriate technical information to emergency personnel. On occasion, this will involve working beyond the standard office hours such as nights, holidays and weekends.

- Reviewing and preparing accurate inspection reports.

- Issuing violations for non-compliance.

- Accurately and professionally providing expert testimony at administrative and criminal court hearings.

- Communicating with agency attorneys on special requests and projects.

- Attending special training events, seminars specific to unit specialties.

- Additional duties and projects as needed or requested by Assistant Chief Inspector, Chief Inspector, Executive Engineer, or Assistant Commissioner of Existing Buildings Compliance division.

- Assist or support other Existing Buildings Compliance units.

REMOTE WORK This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
