JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Delta Utilities is seeking a Supervisor, Gas Construction & Maintenance, to manage and lead the daily activities of construction and maintenance personnel for gas operations, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable performance. This position instills, motivates, and promotes safe work practices and procedures, ensuring adherence to company standards, regulations, and local ordinances. The Supervisor develops and executes long-range departmental goals, directs work teams, provides training and coaching, and establishes aggressive performance expectations.

This role manages and monitors O&M and Capital Spending to ensure budget targets are met, oversees restoration work, and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including governmental agencies. The Supervisor plays a key role in identifying and completing reliability projects on time and demonstrates leadership in ethics, values, and operational excellence while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.


ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Instill, motivate, and promote safe work practices and procedures throughout the work group; ensure adherence to company safety practices and establish procedures to manage loss control risk.
  • Demonstrate leadership on ethics and values; inspire subordinates to consistently adhere to them.
  • Develop and execute long-range planning goals for the department.
  • Direct the work of team members by providing ongoing supervision, feedback, and counseling.
  • Establish training and development plans for the team and review results of completed plans.
  • Achieve operational goals by setting aggressive performance expectations and measuring and monitoring performance levels.
  • Manage and monitor contractors to ensure compliance with company standards and expectations.
  • Manage and monitor O&M and capital spending to ensure budget targets are achieved.
  • Effectively manage the business through data analysis and feedback to identify and achieve improvements.
  • Ensure timely restoration work, including the repair and replacement of city streets and sidewalks, following completion of underground work.
  • Ensure all company and contractor construction and maintenance activities comply with applicable ordinances and requirements.
  • Work with external customers, including governmental agencies, to resolve conflicts, concerns, and issues.
  • Maintain strong and effective internal relationships with key internal stakeholders, including but not limited to customer service, communications, and other gas organizations.
  • Lead the reliability team by ensuring reliability projects are identified and completed on time.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business Administration or Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical).


Minimum experience required of the position

  • 5+ years gas utility construction and maintenance or gas service operations experience
  • Preferred: Prior supervisory or crew leadership experience.


Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to set clear expectations, hold team members accountable, recognize successes, and create an environment that motivates team members to achieve excellence.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership and commitment to promoting safe work practices.
  • Effective skills in planning and organizing work, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams and manage change effectively in a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in coaching, counseling, and developing employees.
  • Experience in natural gas pipeline operations, including underground construction and maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to natural gas operations and pipeline safety.
  • Knowledge of company written gas standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with restoration activities driven by construction and maintenance work.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in duty rotation for gas emergencies, including serving on the Gas Storm Team as needed.
  • Comfortable managing large datasets and distilling insights for non-finance stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
  • Able to perform on-site inspections.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.

Notice: As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
