Responsibilities:
Perform new track construction or maintenance tasks associated with railroad tracks
Operate heavy or specialized equipment, including but not limited to skid steer, plugger, spike puller, bolt machine, compactor/ roller
Practice safe working habits and ensure proper PPE is being used
Be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions
Communicate with team and supervisor throughout the job process
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Experience working outdoors (preferably in construction)
Mobility to participate in frequent travel to and from project location
Safety conscious with high regard to other employees working with and near equipment
Physical Requirements:
Able to perform physical strenuous work
Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledgehammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Environmental Conditions:
Performs duties in multiple environments including outside construction project settings, in and around moving vehicles and equipment. Exposure to weather elements; must wear appropriate PPE required for the project site.
Major or Unusual Problems:
Extensive travel and requirement to stay at project sites for the duration of project. Must carry out responsibilities in a fast-paced, outside construction environment
Will require being away from home for extended periods.
