Transportation Construction Inspector I, II, III

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is actively seeking a talented and motivated Transportation Construction Inspectors to join our team in support of PennDOT Districts 10, 11, or 12 and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission infrastructure projects in Western Pennsylvania. This role focuses on executing our Construction Inspection (CI) work based in our Pittsburgh Office while fostering strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and business partners.
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with client managers, serving as the client's representative in interactions with contractors and vendors.
- Conduct field inspections of contractor activities on highway and bridge construction projects, primarily for PennDOT, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Enforce contract terms while documenting daily construction activities, processing contractor payments, and managing work orders.
- Utilize tablet-based technology to record field documentation and access project plans, specifications, and construction standards in real time.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Ability to walk construction sites in various weather conditions.
- Completion of pre-employment screenings.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English and do basic math computation for length, area, and volume.
- Must meet PennDOT's minimum experience and training requirements; classification level is based on years of construction related experience and number of certifications obtained.
- 2+ years of related experience required.
- PennDOT Concrete Tech, NECEPT Field Tech, or NICET Level II or higher in Highway Construction.
Physical Demands
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis. The inspector must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature. In addition, the inspector must be able to examine construction materials and finished structures.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time (40 hours per week). Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing one unpaid hour for lunch each day. While overtime is generally not anticipated, occasional projects or deadlines may necessitate additional hours, compensated according to company policy. Flexible schedules may be available with prior approval from the immediate supervisor. Work schedules may vary based on project demands.
