As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will undertake various technical responsibilities related to the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects within Engineering District 10-0. Your primary objective will be to ensure that all work adheres to the approved construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. It is crucial to inspect all phases of transportation construction, which includes assisting in verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways alongside contractors and surveyors. You will also be responsible for examining the placement of materials such as cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials; as well as completing compaction testing of sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates using visual non-movement methods. This position gives you the opportunity to engage with department staff, various agencies, legislators, and the public to facilitate the effective management of projects.

Full-time employment

Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Overtime and travel as needed. This position involves vendor-controlled work hours.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. Telework details may be further discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
