Recognized as the most senior level, technical expert in an underwriting specialty. In conjunction with senior management, works within broad authority limits, requiring high technical expertise and coordination. May have national or company-wide scope in the specialty area.Job Description:Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Work with senior management on the most complex underwriting risks, employing advanced diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability. Develop specialized endorsement language for complex risks.Determine appropriate pricing of complex risks based on financial and competitive analysis, ensuring compliance.Participate in developing and implementing underwriting policies, marketing, and business strategies.Interpret corporate strategies to tailor the company's approach for the assigned territory, building consensus within the organization.Analyze the quality, quantity, and profitability of complex risks underwritten; present reports to senior management.Market products and services through agencies or brokerage community; make field visits.Develop and maintain relationships with key agencies and brokers to ensure positive outcomes on high-risk business.Stay current on state/territory issues, regulations, industry trends; represent the company in trade groups.Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters; assist in underwriting training development.Lead special underwriting projects and presentations.Reporting Relationship: Director or aboveSkills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Expertise in underwriting principles, insurance products, and practices.Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects.Ability to handle ambiguous situations and resolve complex problems creatively.Proactive with a long-term business perspective.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software.Demonstrated leadership skills.Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree or equivalent; professional designations preferred.Minimum of ten years underwriting experience with a proven track record.*LI-ES1In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of compensation. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington, the base pay range is $97,000 to $189,000 annually.
