Job Description
The Laborer is responsible for supporting the successful completion of telecom construction projects in Tempe, Arizona.
This Underground Construction Laborer plays a key role in the installation of underground telecom and broadband infrastructure. Responsibilities include trenching, conduit and fiber placement, site preparation, and general support for construction crews. This hands-on position works primarily outdoors and requires physical stamina and attention to detail. Attention to safety protocols and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions are critical to maintaining productivity and minimizing risks on site. Ultimately, the Laborer plays a vital role in the foundational operations that enable construction projects to progress smoothly from start to finish.
What You'll Do:
- Assist with loading, unloading, and moving construction materials and equipment on site.
- Prepare and clean construction sites by removing debris, hazardous materials, and obstacles.
- Support skilled tradespeople by providing necessary tools, materials, and assistance during various phases of construction.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently as directed by supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as digging, lifting, carrying, and assembling temporary structures.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and report any issues or hazards.
- Install conduit, handholes, and fiber optic cables.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Assist equipment operators and management as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety practices and willingness to follow safety protocols.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to and from the job site.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in construction or a related labor-intensive field.
- Familiarity with common construction tools and equipment.
- Certification in OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour construction safety training.
- Basic knowledge of construction site layout and terminology.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- Experience in excavation is helpful.
