We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Construction Project Manager to serve as our on-site representative for a major production line upgrade at our client's facility in Colonial Heights, VA. The client specializes in producing a brand of high-strength, lightweight polyethylene fiber renowned for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to chemicals, water, and ultraviolet light. In this role, you will lead field operations, oversee subcontractors, and drive project success in a fast-paced industrial environment. This position requires strong leadership to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, with a primary focus on electrical (largest scope), civil, and piping/mechanical disciplines. Subcontractors have been pre-selected, and you will not function as an owner's representative but as our firm's direct liaison.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the company's primary on-site representative, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and quality standards.
- Lead and direct crafts, trades, and field teams to execute daily operations efficiently.
- Manage change orders, including evaluation, negotiation, and implementation to minimize disruptions.
- Coordinate with the safety team to enforce protocols, conduct inspections, and promote a zero-incident culture.
- Review and approve contractor invoices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
- Drive project progress in the field, resolving issues proactively and maintaining momentum across all phases.
- Oversee the work of pre-determined subcontractors, monitoring performance, quality, and adherence to specifications in key disciplines: electrical (primary focus), civil, and piping/mechanical.
- Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to integrate field activities with overall project plans.
- Report project status, risks, and milestones to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Construction Project Manager in industrial or manufacturing projects, with a track record of leading field teams and managing multidisciplinary scopes.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams, resolve conflicts, and foster collaboration.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling change orders, invoice approvals, safety coordination, and subcontractor oversight.
- Familiarity with electrical, civil, and piping/mechanical disciplines in construction settings.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a field-based environment, including exposure to industrial sites.
- College degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred but not required; equivalent experience will be considered.
