Protecnium  is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services  (www.protecnium.com/en) . We are currently looking for a  Tunnel Party Chief Surveyor   to join our team for a construction project in   Chesapeake, Virginia (on-site position)

-Estimated duration of the position: 1 year  - In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee in other projects to give him/her continuity.

-Summary:   responsible for leading the surveying operations within tunnelling projects, ensuring precision in alignment, elevations, and control networks. This role involves managing a team of surveyors and coordinating with engineering and construction teams to ensure that all tunnelling activities are executed according to design specifications and project requirements

-Responsibilities:

Lead and supervise the surveying team assigned to the tunnel section of the project. Establish and maintain accurate horizontal and vertical control networks within the tunnel. Conduct daily and periodic tunnel alignments, as-built surveys, and monitoring of deformations or displacements. Coordinate with engineers and construction managers to interpret project plans and provide accurate layout and staking. Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and use of surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, digital levels, laser scanners, gyroscopic systems). Maintain detailed survey records, field notes, and reports. Implement safety protocols and quality control procedures within the surveying team. Communicate effectively with the design and construction teams to resolve discrepancies or unexpected site conditions. Train and mentor junior surveyors and assistants.

-Requirements:

Degree or diploma in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience as a Land Surveyor in underground or tunnel surveying, preferably in major infrastructure projects. Proficiency with survey software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Cyclone). Ability to lead a team and work under pressure in confined underground environments. Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and extended hours as required.

-Working hours:   Monday to Friday, 12 hours day shifts.
