The role of the Vice President and General Manager is to manage, own, and grow the company within a larger organization, with significant support to aid in your business success. You are responsible for the sales and operations of the company and customer satisfaction. This role has high visibility with our clients as well as internally, due to the need to connect required service support areas of the business such as the Warehouse, Accounting, Purchasing, Safety, Human Resources, Marketing, and Customer Service. From coordinating resource requirements to ensuring billing and invoices are accurate, the Vice President and General Manager is key to ensuring the processes are in place to deliver quality sales, service, and products from pre-sale to project kickoff to project close-outs. Reporting & Relationships: The Vice President and General Manager reports directly to the COO/EVP. The entire team including sales, estimating, and operations will report to this position. Job Responsibilities: Provide strong leadership to the organization, especially to front-line field employees, with a positive attitude and calm demeanor. Responsible for the Sales and Operations Department to ensure a proper hand-off process from sales through operations to provide the best customer experience possible. Work closely with Project and Estimating teams in a collaborative manner, providing consistent feedback on estimates with factual data. Review all bids with the sales and estimating staff and attend weekly sales and operations meetings. Focus on job preparation of new projects to set the teams up for success and avoid issues at the back end of projects. Utilize sales and operations technology to produce efficient end-user information and eliminate re-work in processes. Evaluate internal processes involving sales, operations, and other customer-facing functions and provide recommendations for procedural efficiencies aimed at gross margin improvements and revenue initiatives. Work with in-house sales and operations teams to understand processes for submitting detailed designs, measurements, estimates, and proposals. Perform estimating and setup of in-process project change orders. Research, investigate, and provide remedies for project errors regarding costs, estimates, and operational measures. Monitor blueprinting, shop drawing, and submittal processes, and contract interpretation and administration. Administer in-progress work order changes, approvals, and project close-out actions. Ensure full lifecycle customer relationship management, including proactive customer service initiatives, resolving concerns promptly, and proactively solving problems for the best outcomes. Ensure process breakdowns are not repeated, and communicate corrections to staff for future guidance and process improvement. Work with Human Resources to assist in interviewing processes and match manpower talent to business needs, ensuring a consistent workforce pipeline. Provide mentoring and coaching to staff and foster a culture of collaboration and learning. Conduct annual performance evaluations. Stay updated on the latest industry technology trends. Adhere to all safety rules and procedures. Balance time between office and field responsibilities as necessary. Participate in weekly Operations Management meetings and monthly Foremen's meetings. Administer weekly accuracy reports during Operations meetings. Track pending change orders and manage the change order approval process. Responsible for all company invoicing. Ensure staff complete daily and weekly online project management reports. Job Qualifications: Demonstrated leadership competencies, including confidentiality, positive attitude, effective communication, and the ability to influence clients and staff from diverse backgrounds. Organizational and time management skills. Presentation skills and strong understanding of roofing and sheet metal industry operations and sales. Attention to detail in overseeing sales and operations teams. Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, schedules, bid data, and use estimating and project management software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn Timberline, AutoCAD, Follow up Power, and MasterKey software systems. Bachelor's Degree in business administration, construction management, or equivalent experience in construction. Experience working with unions and union employees is highly desirable.
